hai nature of language is another one of my classes. it's technically an english class, but we learn a lot about, as the name implies, the nature of langauge: the study of language, its stucture, etc. very fun for an like me. i like picking apart the english language and knowing everything about it

our professor is making the entire class learn she said she chose hawaiian specifically because it has the same alphabet as english does (bless her soul for not making us learn another alphabet), and it was a small enough language that she could count on no one in the classroom knowing it before taking the course. it's really interesting learning the grammar of a different language and how it compares to grammar in english.

hawaiian is a vso language (verb-subject-object) and english is a svo language (subject-verb-object). i really want an excuse to use hawaiian so i'm giving an example!!!!

english -

hawaiian -

in the english sentence, the subject is i, the verb is love, and the object is you!. in the hawaiian sentence, the verb is aloha, the subject is wau, and the object is 'oe. (quick note: aloha can be a greeting, but it can also be used as a verb! as a verb, it can mean "to love" or "to be fond of" :D !!

also once again my native langauge is english and i am only fluent in that language!!! i also only started learning hawaiian around five weeks ago lol. i am no expert so take my words with a grain of salt.

i think if i don't become a middle school english teacher, i might go into linguistics. i mean, i haven't switched my major from "undecided" yet, so it's a possibility.... dot dot... no it actually seems really interesting. i might switch this to my plan b!!

a. teacher => b. linguist => etc etc (i forgot lol)

the end!
